Standards & Guidelines

Our conformance target

Narra aims to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. This is a target we build and test against, not a certified conformance claim. We are partially conformant: most of the platform meets Level AA, and the specific areas that do not are listed in Known Accessibility Issues below.

This assessment was made by our own team, most recently in September 2026, using the automated and manual methods described in Testing & Validation. It has not been verified by an independent third party.

Level A
Minimum requirements
Level AA
Enhanced accessibility: our target
Level AAA
Optimal accessibility: where feasible

WCAG 2.1 covers four principles:

  • Perceivable: information presented in multiple ways
  • Operable: keyboard and other input methods supported
  • Understandable: clear and predictable content and behaviour
  • Robust: works with assistive technologies

WCAG 2.2

WCAG 2.2 became a W3C Recommendation in October 2023 and adds success criteria covering focus appearance, dragging movements, target size, consistent help, and redundant entry. We have not yet assessed the platform against WCAG 2.2. New work is built with those criteria in mind, and a full assessment is planned. We will state the result here when we have one.

VPAT and conformance reports

We do not currently publish a VPAT or an Accessibility Conformance Report. If you need one for a procurement process, contact accessibility@narrahealthcare.com and we will tell you honestly what we can provide and by when.

Known Accessibility Issues

These are the areas where we do not currently meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We list them because a statement that claims no exceptions, while exceptions exist, is not worth reading.

Current exceptions

Area What is not conformant Status
Third-party integrations Embedded content and flows we do not control may not meet Level AA. Review of every third-party integration is underway. Where a vendor cannot meet the standard, we look for an accessible alternative or provide an equivalent route.
Legacy blog content Some older posts have heading structures, image alt text, or contrast that fall short. Remediation is in progress and continuing. New and updated posts are authored to Level AA.
Legacy PDF documents Some older PDFs are not tagged and are not reliably readable by a screen reader. Not yet remediated. An accessible alternative format is provided on request, normally within 5 business days.
Partner video content Some videos supplied by partners lack captions or a transcript. Not yet remediated. Captions are required for all new video we publish ourselves. A transcript is provided on request.

How we are working through this

We are deliberately not publishing a target date for each item. Earlier versions of this page carried quarterly deadlines that passed without the work being done, which is worse than saying nothing. What we commit to instead:

  • Every item above stays on this page, with its real status, until it is closed.
  • We update this page when a status changes, and at least once every six months.
  • Accessibility defects reported to us are triaged on the response times in the reporting section below, whether or not they appear in this table.
  • Where we cannot yet fix something, we provide an accessible alternative on request.

An independent third-party audit has not yet been commissioned. When one is, we will publish the date it was carried out and who carried it out.

Testing & Validation

Automated Tools

  • Axe DevTools
  • WAVE
  • Lighthouse accessibility audits
  • Pa11y

Manual Testing

  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver)
  • Zoom up to 200%
  • High contrast modes
  • Voice control software

Automated tools catch a minority of accessibility problems, so manual testing is the larger part of our process. We also conduct user testing with people with disabilities.
